Owl Treat Bags

I wanted to make a little "thank you" for the hostesses at Denver and my baby shower but was really unsure of what to make until I saw the cutest little owl treat bag online. Isn't this adorable? Of course, I wanted to make just a regular (boy) owl since it's or a boy shower. I bought a package of construction paper and a pack of brown lunch sacks - both from the dollar store. Then I pulled up my Silhouette program and started making shapes to match the girly Owl bag. I started with eyes. Then I moved to the chest area. It's easy to just make the first shape and copy & paste so that each bag is exactly alike. Then I moved on to cutting little owl "feet". The Silhouette just cuts the paper, you remove the blank space and are left with the shapes you cut. Then I made lots of triangles for the beak and the ears. I made them all the same size. Then I took out a glue stick and started going to work. First the chest, then feet, then eyes and so on. And this is "him" all put together. Isn't he adorable? I just folded over the top so that I could tape it closed. Tomorrow I'll share what I put in them!

The Baby Shower Aftermath

The shower was wonderful! Denver received so many adorable things. It took 4 cars to get it all home. Needless to say, he's a little spoiled already. It's going to take me a few days to go through everything and get it all organized. A dear friend of mine came over after the shower and helped me get everything out of the bags and make piles of stuff around his room so it would be easier to see what we have and go through it.


We were so blessed to get his travel system, bath tub, bedding and high chair. So, we have all of his big stuff!


He received so many books, lots of diapers and wipes (thank goodness) and about 40 blankets!


Lots of bath stuff, our breast pump and lots of neat things like a play mat, an entertainment bar for his carseat, etc.


And we're going to be able to use almost all of the decorations they used at his shower, in his room. I can't wait to put it all together!

Baby Shower

Today is my first Baby Shower! I have another one a week from today. I can't wait to see everyone and get to visit and then, of course, see all the cute baby things.

I have a feeling the next couple of weeks are going to be very busy washing, folding, unpacking, putting things up, organizing, etc. I can't wait!

Becky & Aubree's Baby Shower

My dear friend Becky's baby shower was this weekend, at my house. We had a good group of ladies putting it on and I think it turned out really successful and Becky had a great turn out and received a lot of really adorable things for Miss Aubree.

The desserts!

I ordered this cake from Frosted Bakery in Houston. I sent them a picture of Aubree's bedding and asked them to match it. I was happy with how it turned out and it was delicious!

I bought these cupcakes at HEB, and made all of the cupcake toppers.

Gifts from the Hostesses

We made this clothes line out of ribbon and hung clothes that one of the hostesses gave her (she owns a little boutique).

The hostesses! All in all, it was a wonderful day with Becky's friends and family - showering her and Miss Aubree with love and lots of wonderful baby things! I can't wait to meet sweet baby Aubree really soon!

Western Baby Shower

Bridgett's baby shower was Saturday, and I can honestly say - it was a huge success. We got a lot of compliments on how everything looked and how much fun every one had and she received a LOT of gifts so I think all-in-all, we had a great shower.

Unfortunately, I was having camera issues but one of the hostesses, Amanda (of Matthews Photography) had brought her camera to take pictures and she let me borrow some. So, all of these pictures are courtesy of her.

This is the corsage that Bridgett wore. My mother in law made it. The "roses" are actually baby socks - it was so adorable.

A poem about being a mother.

A maternity picture. We used brown butcher paper to cover all of the tables and then used red and blue bandanas as toppers. We used a couple of hay bales as accents and one busted up hay bale (instead of confetti).

We used the diaper cake as the display on the main guest table. The diaper cake (made by my mother in law, Jackie Fountain)

The favors and the cake. The favors were little coyboy boots filled with red and blue tulle and m&ms. The bandana print gift tags read "Thank you for helping Andy & Bridgett welcome Clayton Robert into the world". Close up of the cake. It was made by Cakes Du' Jour in Center, TX. The top layer was a yellow cake, the middle cake was marble and the bottom cake was chocolate and they were all absolutely delicious.

Some of the food. We layed everything out on the bar - chili and all the fixings. The high for the day was 62, so everyone loved the warm chili!

The glider and ottoman was a gift from her parents. My father in law and husband put it together the night before the shower and loaded it up so that she could sit in it while opening presents.

I think the best idea I've ever had is buying and bringing a laundry basket with me. As she opened, we had one person taking pictures, I wrote down what she received and from whom, her Aunt folded all of the tissue paper (yes, I'm one of those people) and then we had a younger girl folding the clothes and putting them in the laundry basket and all of the hangers in one bag.

That way, when she got home - she could just take the basket to the laundry room and wash them before putting them up and she could either keep or throw the hangers out.

It was nice and easy and it made clean up go a whole lot quicker!

And since we ran out of room on the table, we used the floor. We used jute and then ribbon to make clotheslines for some of the clothes that the grandparents bought. More clothes and a "Cowboy" sign for his room!

I was very pleased with how the shower turned out and I think everyone had a great time! Now, it's time to start working on the next one! A dear friend of mine is pregnant and I've been asked to help with her shower. It's in January so I have some time off before I have to get crackin'!

Third Frame Is Finished

I wanted a different look for the third frame so I spray painted it black and then went with more neutral paper.

I found paper that looked like burlap, and cut it down to the exact size of the picture frame.

The black frame really brings out the hints of black in the paper, doesn't it?

I took a picture (courtesy of Matthews Photography in Center, TX) and matted it with some black card stock.

Then I used spray adhesive to attach the mat to the burlap paper.

I wound up finding some "rub on" words that I really liked, in black.

You just lay down what you want to transfer, rub it with a popsicle stick and it the color rubs off onto your paper.

And it comes out like this.

And this is it, all done.

And with the other frames. It's a lot different than the others, but I really like it. What do you think?
